Police are appealing to the public for information after a group of dirt bikers hit a woman's car in south Auckland then circled a police vehicle before damaging it.

Police said in a statement they received reports about 5:30pm on Sunday that a group of dirt bike riders were driving dangerously in Manurewa and Manukau areas.

Shortly after, one biker hit another vehicle as it was entering a petrol station on Cavendish Drive, Manukau.

Police said the driver was shaken and intimidated by the number of riders around her vehicle.

When police arrived the bikers circled one police car and threw an item at it, causing minor damage.

Inspector Kerry Watson said there was no excuse for this type of intimidation and disorder.

"This was a member of the public trying to go about her business, and she didn't deserve to feel threatened.

"We will be examining CCTV and making further enquiries.

"However we also want to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or who has information about the riders involved."

Police ask anyone with information to call 105 and quote event number P050892488.
