Edgecumbe police seek information after teenage boy left with serious injuries following 'prolonged and violent' attack

Edgecumbe police are appealing for information after a teenage boy was subject to a "prolonged and violent" attack, leaving him with serious injuries.

Police were called to the attack before 5pm on Tuesday near the toilets at Riverslea Mall in Edgecumbe. 

The boy was with another group of boys when he was attacked. He was taken to hospital for treatment, and has since been discharged. 

Police now want to find the attacker and are seeking information from the public as to what happened. 

Senior Sergeant Tristan Murray said police would like to speak to anyone who saw the assault, or who may be able to provide information about the person of interest. 

"He is described as Māori or Pacific Islander between 30 and 40 years old, of large build, with a beard, and wearing a yellow high-vis jacket."
