Negotiations for gang truce fail as another Auckland house left riddled with bullets overnight

Five children were at home when the latest suspected gang shooting left an Auckland house riddled with bullet holes overnight.

It happened in the North Shore suburb of Beach Haven and the children were at home with their grandparents - one of whom is a former gang member.

It's the latest in a string of suspected revenge shootings targeting Auckland homes. And negotiations for a truce have so far failed.

The evidence of yet another shooting in our biggest city. Offenders took aim at a Beach Haven house just before sunrise. It left windows sprayed with holes and shattered glass. Cars were also in the line of fire.

"I was up reading a book and I heard about six loud bangs and I was hoping it was a car backfiring as I heard screeching of wheels afterwards," neighbour Christian George said.

"Just a series of loud bangs. One after the other. Roughly six of them. Quite prominent," another neighbour said.

It's left yet another Auckland suburb reeling.

"We have young kids. We fear for their safety. So It's shaken us up a bit especially being down the road," Halatono Kaihau said.

Police say they were called to Mirage Place just before 5:30am after receiving reports a firearm had been discharged in the direction of a property.

Newshub has spoken to a group of teenagers who said they heard the gunshots this morning. They were shocked to discover it was at a house where their friends and family live.

On Friday police announced multiple arrests in their investigation of the tit-for-tat shootings between the Tribesmen and its former feeder gang the Killer Beez.

Community leaders have attempted to broker a truce between both parties to curb the violence.

"They are just not willing. We have to continue that dialogue and just wait because it is about our community being caught in the middle," Manukau Ward Councillor Alf Filipina said.

Something that can't come soon enough to bring calm to communities across Auckland.

"It's scary. It's really scary," George said.

"It's just scary knowing going to sleep at night you have to be more aware," Kaihau added.

While a family tries to come to terms with what's unfolded.
