Transpower's national emergency grid came to an end on Thursday morning without any Kiwis being disconnected.

A grid emergency was issued earlier in the morning, with warnings of potential power cuts due to the risk of "insufficient energy offers".

In a statement, a Transpower spokesperson said the gird emergency allowed the system operator to work with lines companies to remove controllable loads, like hot water systems, until the morning peak eased.

"With additional generation coming online shortly before 9am and with demand falling the system operator was able to start working with lines companies to restore controllable load. This was completed by 9:25am and the grid emergency ended."

Chief executive Alison Andrew said Transpower worked quickly to maintain system security during the emergency.

"We have a grid emergency system in place for exactly this type of situation."

She added lines companies knew what was needed and moved quickly to manage controllable load and reduce demand.

"No one was disconnected, and the system stayed stable throughout," she said.

Transpower is working with the industry to ensure there is sufficient generation to cover this evening's peak, she said.
