Police making progress in Parliament protest arrests after sharing photos of alleged offenders

Police say they are making progress identifying people linked to illegal activity during the 23-day Wellington anti-mandate protest.

The end of the occupation saw clashes between officers and demonstrators, with videos capturing protestors hurling bricks and bottles and police officers being sprayed with fire extinguishers.

Last week, police shared images of 15 people in the hope members of the public will recognise them and on Tuesday police said in a statement this has had results.

"A public appeal to identify 15 people has so far led to more than 30 Crime Stoppers reports, which are now going through a robust verification process."

Police also said a 40-year-old man appeared in the Wellington District Court on Tuesday in relation to the alleged offending at Parliament.

"He has been bailed to reappear on Monday 18 July on charges including rioting and assault," a police spokesperson said.

The investigation has led to 12 prosecutions and a supported resolution referral for one young person.

Police expect to make more arrests as the investigation remains ongoing.
