Two stores were burgled  in Auckland overnight as the city's crime wave continues.

Police responded to a smash-and-grab at Smith and Caughey's on Queen Street at just before 11pm on Sunday evening.

Footage from the scene shows the storefront shattered, with debris littered across the footpath of the CBD's main street.

A police spokesperson told Newshub the offenders made off with a range of items.

"A number of offenders subsequently entered the store and have taken a range of items before decamping the scene in three vehicles," they said.

"Two vehicles were identified to be involved in the incident and have been located abandoned in Napier Street, Freemans Bay.

"The investigation to identify those involved is ongoing, which includes reviewing CCTV footage, and speaking to witnesses."

It wasn't the only burglary overnight. A store in Kelston was ram-raided but the would-be thieves didn't manage to steal anything.

Police were called to an address on Sabulite Road at about 11.20pm.

"Police received reports of a vehicle being used to gain entry into a retail premise. The offenders were interrupted by witnesses and have abandoned the scene in a second vehicle without taking anything from the store," the spokesperson said.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the incident."
