AAP Factcheck has quashed false claims made by a US website that New Zealand Police may launch a probe into vaccine deaths.

The false claims were made on July 13 by News Punch, a website that describes itself as an "independent news and entertainment website".

Earlier this month FactCheck.org labelled the website as a "prolific poster of misinformation and conspiracy theories".

The story was being shared to Facebook with the headline 'Jacinda Ardern left reeling as New Zealand Police look at investigating COVID jab deaths'.

The article claims police are considering launching an investigation into "the unusually high number of deaths that have occurred since COVID jabs were rolled out", but AAP found the website had no evidence to back up this claim.

The News Punch story instead pointed to a group called New Zealand Doctors Speaking Out with Science (NZDSOS) which had written a letter to police requesting an investigation.

AAP couldn't find evidence police are investigating alleged vaccine deaths or are considering an inquiry.

"NZ Police is not considering an investigation into vaccine deaths," a police spokesperson confirmed to Newshub.
