Investigation launched after person found dead in caravan destroyed by fire in Christchurch

Canterbury police have launched an investigation after a person was found dead in a caravan destroyed by a fire.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said in a statement police were called to a Te Maru Place property in Redwood at 12:40am on Monday.

Detective Snr Srgt Baillie added the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Footage shows both police and Fire and Emergency (FENZ) in attendance with one police vehicle blocking the road.

Detective Snr Srgt Baillie said a scene guard was in place overnight while both police and FENZ investigators conduct a scene examination on Monday morning.
