Man arrested after 'serious assault' on taxi driver in Hawke's Bay

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after a taxi driver was seriously assaulted in Hawke's Bay on Saturday night.

Police were called to the assault in Flaxmere at around 11:20pm. The driver was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

"A 32-year-old man was arrested and is due to appear tomorrow in the Hastings District Court charged with wounding with intent to injure," Detective Sergeant Heath Jones said in a statement.

"Police would like to reassure the community that incidents like this are taken extremely seriously."
