A man has been charged with murder after two people were shot dead in west Auckland on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the shooting on Barry's Rd in Glendene at about 3:30pm.

"A man has been charged with murder in relation to the deaths of two people in Glendene on Friday," said Det Insp John Sutton, of Waitematā.

The man was charged with two counts of murder and was due to appear in the Waitākere District Court on Saturday.

Sutton said on Saturday morning no one else was sought in relation to the shooting and those involved were believed to be known to each other.

The NZ Herald reported the shooting was believed to be linked to the Head Hunters gang and the victims were a father and daughter.

Sutton said the police investigation was continuing and locals would continue seeing an increased presence of officers in the area.

"Post-mortem examinations will be carried out in the coming days," he said.
