North Shore ram raid: 10 people arrested, stolen cars and property recovered after Auckland dairy burgled

Police have arrested 10 people after a dairy in Auckland's North Shore was ram-raided overnight.

Police were called to Elizabeth Dairy in Belmont just after 1am on Monday.

Footage from the scene shows items from the shop spread across the floor.

In a statement police said 10 people have been arrested and stolen property and vehicles were recovered.

Police said the group used a stolen car to smash into the store before taking items and then fleeing in two other stolen cars.

Police said the Eagle helicopter managed to follow the group as they travelled south over the Auckland Harbour Bridge. One of the cars was then spiked and stopped on St Johns Road and five people were taken into custody.

The second car stopped near Westfield Manukau and five people were found nearby and taken into custody.

Police said six young people have been referred to Youth Aid and four others are due to appear in the Youth Court.

Newshub understands one of the drivers was just 12 years old.

The burglary comes just days after a dramatic police incident unfolded in the suburb. On Thursday, armed police swarmed a house on Bardia St calling for a person to come out. The incident plunged four nearby schools into lockdown.

In a separate incident in Devonport, a man was arrested after allegedly crashing a stolen car into the back of another car while fleeing police.
