Police treating Dunedin death as 'unexplained' after man assaulted, run over

Police are treating the death of a man who died in Dunedin on Thursday evening as unexplained after he was assaulted and run over.

Police said in a statement they were called to Eglinton Road at around 7:30pm after reports a man had been assaulted and run over by a vehicle.

"Sadly, the man died at the scene," the police said.

"We understand a group of people were present at the scene prior to this man’s death and welcome any information you may have that will help us understand what happened."

Police said cordons remain in place on Eglinton Road while officers carry out a scene examination.

"Anyone with concerns or information that may assist is asked to contact Police via 105 quoting event number P051302605," police said.
