Greymouth police are seeking information from the public in relation to historic sexual offending against young boys on the West Coast.

The public appeal follows the guilty plea of 87-year-old West Coast man Allan William Walton, charged with multiple historic sexual offences against young boys and male adolescents during the late 1950s to the 1980s.

And now police would like to speak with anyone who may have information of similar offending by Walton.

The victims identified so far share a link through several sports clubs on the West Coast that Walton was involved with, which included the West Coast junior rugby league clubs and the Greymouth Memorial swimming baths.

A police spokesperson said on Wednesday that the 87-year-old was also known by the nickname 'Skeeter' at the time of his offending.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Greymouth police directly at (03) 768 1590 and quote file number 210619/6212.
