A third man has been arrested over the murder of 48-year-old Mark Hohua in Whakatāne.

Hohua died in hospital on June 19 from injuries he received the previous evening.

A police spokesperson said in a statement that a 34-year-old man is now due to appear in the Tauranga District Court on Wednesday charged with murder.

A 25-year-old and a 32-year-old have already been charged with Hohua's murder. They are remanded in custody and due to reappear in court on July 20.

"Police would like to reiterate an appeal for anyone who has information about how Mr Hohua sustained his injuries, to come forward to police on 105 and quote file 220618/2962," the police spokesperson said.
