Wellington man spends morning reinflating tyres as anti-SUV group Tyre Extinguishers strike again

A Wellingtonian has spent his morning reinflating the tyres of his work vehicle after climate action group Tyre Extinguishers deflated them overnight.

Environmental services worker Ronaldo Vollenhoven told Newshub his colleague went to grab something out of their work SUV vehicle last night when he noticed a note had been left on his windscreen.

"There was a note on the car and then he noticed two of the tyres were flat."

The lengthy note titled "Attention - your gas guzzlers kill" admitted to deflating the tyres but encouraged those who had been affected to not take it personally "it's not you, it's your car".

Vollenhoven had parked his car along Oriental Parade last night when he visited his workmate. The discovery of the flat tyres ruined an otherwise pleasant Sunday evening.

"Mostly just anger, just a bit annoyed on a Sunday evening, not something you want to see. Wasted two hours of our time this morning," Vollenhoven said while pumping up his tyres.

And it wasn't just Vollenhoven who had been targeted. He told Newshub a person down the road from him said 10 cars had their tyres deflated on their street.

"He had to help, fortunately, he had an air compressor handy."

But unfortunately for Vollenhoven, he didn't have an air compressor and instead spent two hours on Monday morning trying to re-inflate his tyres.

"It's such a nearsighted idiotic undertaking. What's the point of deflating someone's work vehicle?"

Vollenhoven shared his annoying discovery on Facebook group Vic Deals in case others "woke up to a bad surprise in the morning".

One person shared their frustration, saying they are usually called to re-inflate people's tyres.

"The amount of times we've been called out at stupid hours to pump up tyres that have been deflated," one member said.

"What's even better, is I go out in a 4x4 diesel work ute to go pump them up."

Previously the climate action anti-SUV group has received a large amount of backlash from the public after targeting residents in Auckland.

In May the group's organisers vowed to step up their action

"This will spread and more actions are planned," the spokesperson who didn't want to be identified said.

A police spokesperson confirmed to Newshub that a number of people have reported their tyres being slashed or deflated.

"We would ask anyone who has also had their tyres slashed and not reported it to Police to please do so - this allows us to be aware of any trends or patterns."
