Auckland mayoral candidate John Lehmann reckons the City of Sails could do with 13 more mayors than it already has.

And if Lehmann is elected Auckland mayor in September, he said that's exactly what he'll do.

Lehmann would implement an associate mayor for each of the 13 wards in Auckland to provide a direct point of contact to the council - something he said is lacking.

"People have been telling me the council is a nightmare to deal with. People feel they get shoved from piler to post and that must stop (sic)."

Lehmann said an associate mayor for each ward "will give a conduit directly from the public to council".

"If the public have a problem or need something all they will need to do is contact their ward office (sic)."

He added if elected mayor, the associate mayors will have direct communication with him.

"You'll have someone to eyeball."

In another move to change things up, Lehmann will assess moving all council staff out of one building and spread them across the super city.

"This will make it easier for staff get to and from work as well as having a better feel for the area needs (sic)."

Other declared candidates alongside Lehmann in the Auckland mayoral race are Viv Beck, Gary Brown, Wayne Brown, Efeso Collins, Ted Johnston, Michael Kampkes, Lisa Lewis, Craig Lord, Michael Morris, and John Palino.
