A brutal fight in central Auckland has shocked social media users for its "disgusting" and "violent" nature.

A video of the brawl shows about a dozen people yelling, shouting, and hitting each other on the corner of Hobson St and Cook St late on Saturday night.

It starts with about four groups of people hitting and punching each other, with one person dragging another around by pulling on their clothes and eventually pushing them to the ground.

Two people in the fight even fall into the street, with one person repeatedly punching the other. A trio of people then get so close to falling into the street that one car beeps its horn at them as it drives through the intersection.

As the fight continues, one person is repeatedly heard screaming and yelling, "what the f**k".

The once-small groups of fights then becomes one large brawl. One person shouts "f**k off" multiple times and a loud punch is heard, meanwhile, someone shouts that the police need to be called to stop the clash.

The fight then appears to stop as the group walks away, but two people start throwing punches and the group begins brawling again. One person is even pushed down four stairs onto the footpath amid the conflict.

As the video comes to an end, one person is thrown to the ground and stomped on multiple times by another.

The video, which is almost two minutes long, was uploaded to Reddit and shocked some users.

"That corner is a hotspot for violent shit," one said.

"Yeah that stomp was disgusting. Especially as the guy that got stomped looks like the same guy that ended up at the bottom of the steps dazed and confused," another user added.

"Auckland is like the Wild West now," a third person said.

It is not clear why or how the fight started.
