A car remains with its nose in the sand on an east Auckland beach after an early morning crash on Sunday.

A Buckland Beach resident heard the commotion at 5am on Sunday and thought it was their car being broken into, but upon further inspection, they found someone had driven off the sea wall along the beach parade.

"A car has just gone off, the wheels were still going the lights were still on," she told Newshub.

The local who Newshub has agreed not to name said four people jumped out of the car slowly and left, so she called the police.

When she went to have a look inside the car the local claims "lots of nangs" - also known as laughing gas or 'nos' - as well as "heaps of alcohol" was in the car.

The local told Newhsub the driver must have completely missed the turn to end up on the beach.

"They must have got some pretty serious air, because there are stairs that go down [to the beach], they must've flown over that."

The local said the sea wall where the car landed saw a bit of damage, but they said Buckland residents out for their Sunday morning stroll enjoyed the new attraction.

A police spokesperson confirmed they responded to a single-vehicle crash just before 5am on Sunday.

No injuries were reported and the owner of the vehicle is arranging to have the car removed.
