The Ministry of Health is reporting a fourth case of the viral zoonotic disease monkeypox.

A spokesperson said the person recently returned from overseas and is currently isolating in the South Island.

The Ministry of Health said there is currently no evidence of community transmission from the fourth case.

"Public health staff have assessed the risk of transmission from this case as low."

The spokesperson added health professionals are being reminded by the Ministry to "remain vigilant" for any possible cases of the disease.

So far, all cases reported in Aotearoa are in those who have returned from overseas and we've not yet seen any cases come from their close contacts.

Aotearoa's first case was reported by the Ministry of Health in early July.
