Armed police cordon off central Christchurch streets amid 'serious incident', one person injured

An offender is still at large after a man was shot in Christchurch.

A police spokesperson said the man was taken to Christchurch Hospital and remains in a serious condition.

The man reportedly suffered two gunshot wounds.

Emergency services were called to the shooting on Hereford St at 11:15am.

St John confirmed one rapid response unit, one manager and one ambulance responded to the scene.

Police said they are in the early stages of an investigation and there have been no arrests so far.

Earlier today, armed police officers were seen on cordoned-off roads in the suburb of Linwood near central Christchurch.

Cordons remain in place in the vicinity of Hereford St and Stanmore Rd while a scene examination is underway.

"We appreciate a firearms incident on a suburban street will have caused anxiety for our local community," Detective Senior Sergeant Tania Jellyman said.

"The community will notice an increase in patrols in the area."

Police are asking for witnesses or anyone with information or concerns to make contact.
