Rotorua police are seeking help from the public in finding a missing 18-year-old kayaker on Lake Rotorua after his kayak was found but no sign of him.
A police spokesperson said in a statement the 18-year-old Māori man was last seen at about 2:30pm on Wednesday when he went kayaking on the western side of the lake.
"He is described as about 188cm tall, with a slim build, and was wearing dark clothing," police said.
The young man was reported missing after he failed to return on Wednesday afternoon. Since his disappearance police have recovered his orange and blue kayak.
"[We] are urgently asking for any sightings of the man potentially seen exiting the lake, or in the water, from 2:30pm."
