Most of New Zealand bathed in sun for long weekend, risk of showers for some

Kiwis can expect a relatively fine long weekend of weather with just a few scattered showers for some places.

MetService is predicting a mostly fine first day of daylight saving time with just a few showers in inland places of the North Island in the afternoon before they become more frequent in Northland in the evening.

The South Island will see a fine and cloudy day on Sunday with just a few isolated showers for Nelson, Buller, Westland, Fiordland, Canterbury, Otago and Southland.

"As a low that affected the country today [Saturday] pulls away to the east, a high brings us more settled weather. However, a few showers still affect eastern parts of both islands tomorrow [Sunday]," MetService said

Kiwis in the North Island can expect a cloudy but fine day on Queen Elizabeth II memorial day with isolated showers in the east and the north.

The South Island will get rain in the west but it'll be mainly fine elsewhere, with isolated afternoon and evening showers in the south.

As we tick closer to summer, NIWA said New Zealand is seeing warmer than usual conditions for this time of year for most places on most days because of a lack of southerlies.

Auckland

Aucklanders can expect some morning clouds before it clears to become fine apart from possible afternoon showers with the temperature expected to reach 20 degrees on Sunday.

The Queen Elizabeth II memorial day will be partly cloudy with an isolated shower in the morning before it clears for a fine afternoon.

But it will improve for Wellingtonians on Monday with a sunny day predicted with fine weather, light wind and a high of 16 degrees.

Christchurch
