Tahuti mai e ngā iwi, welcome everyone to this special digital bulletin from Newshub.

We've put together some of Newshub's top pūrākau, or stories, to mark Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.

It's now 50 years since the Māori Language Petition was presented to Parliament calling for Te Reo and Māori culture to be taught in all schools.

That prompted an official Maori Language Day, which was later extended to a week.

And then in 1987, te reo Māori became an official language of Aotearoa, the other being sign language.
