Police were called in when a Halloween Party in the central Auckland suburb of Ōwairaka got out of control on Saturday night.

Police said they received a report at about 11pm that about 100 people had turned up uninvited to a party on Ōwairaka Ave and were causing issues on the street, "including a couple of scuffles".

The father of the teen who organised the party took to the local community group on Facebook to apologise over the incident, saying he called the police himself.

"My daughter had invited some friends for a Halloween party and it got out of control - to the point where my wife and I could no longer control who was entering the house. At that point we called the police, who cleared kids who had arrived uninvited," he wrote.

Most of those responding to his message were understanding of the situation, with one woman replying: "Ain't parenting fun!"

Another neighbour said the street was closed down as police dealt with the situation.

"Over 30 police trying their best. The abuse they received from crowd refusing to leave ... thankful to the police, amazing job containing the situation."

Police said they began moving people on about 11.30pm and the street was cleared by midnight.
