Police are appealing for the public's help after a phone belonging to a 22-year-old missing for a month was found in Kāpiti Coast.
Breanna Muriwai was last seen in the early hours of 28 August at Te Horo Beach.
In written update today, police said a resident in the area had found her phone on the beach last week.
Police's High-Tech Crime Group was examining the phone for any clues on her disappearance.
They are now asking walkers and fishers to keep an eye out for any other items of interest, including clothing or items from a handbag, which may appear on the coastline between Te Horo and Peka Peka.
"Even if you locate an item and are not sure whether it may be relevant, we still want to hear from you," said detective senior sergeant Dave Thompson.
Police had already alerted the Te Horo beach settlement's residents to the case and several searches had also been done in the area.
Thompson said Muriwai's family were desperate for answers and it was unusual for her not to contact her family and friends.
"We are working hard to find those answers for them, but we know there are people in our community who will have information which will be important to our investigation. We ask them to come forward."
Police were keeping an open mind as to what had happened to her, he said.
