Police investigating how fatally assaulted man travelled from Wellington to Lower Hutt

Police are investigating how Craig McKelvie travelled from Wellington to Lower Hutt where he was fatally assaulted.

Emergency services were called to a Mason St address in Moera at about 10pm on Friday following reports a man had been seriously assaulted. 

McKelvie, 52, was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries. A homicide investigation was subsequently launched.

Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Todd said as part of the ongoing investigation police believe McKelvie was in the Johnsonville area on Friday evening, before his death.

"How Mr McKelvie got to Moera, from Johnsonville, is now a focus of the investigation and police are appealing to anyone to come forward who has knowledge of this, or is the person who took Mr McKelvie to Johnsonville," Det Snr Srg Todd said.

Police are continuing to investigate CCTV footage and from information received they have extended the times of interest for CCTV footage to between 8:45pm and 10:15pm on Friday in the Randwick Road area of Moera, and surrounding streets.
