Auckland woman unsure how to cope after car stolen in broad daylight

An expectant mother whose car was stolen doesn't know how she will cope without it.

On Tuesday, Aucklander Daisy Pederson was visiting one of her relatives at Middlemore Hospital when her car was stolen.

The expectant mother told The Project she didn't realise her car was gone until someone from the hospital told her.

"I am 15 weeks pregnant so I was thinking, 'Ugh, baby brain, I must've parked somewhere else'."

Pederson said someone from one of the higher levels in the hospital knocked on the window and mouthed. "Are you looking for your car?"

When Pederson said she was, the person met her in the hospital car park and told Pederson her car had been stolen.

"I was shocked, I don't know how he got out. It happened during the day, it was pretty brave of him," Pederson told The Project.

Pederson said she had bought the car as a birthday present for herself a week ago.

While being interviewed on The Project, Pederson said police had found her car but unfortunately it was damaged and she confessed she didn't have insurance.

She told The Project she hadn't "thought that far" about how she was going to cope without a car.

"I don't know how I am going to get to my midwife appointments, I don't know how I am going to get to any of my viewings or my inspection," Pederson said.

When asked if she felt any ill will towards the person who stole her car, she said she has a soft spot for the troubled kids in her community.

"Part of me is like, I understand that maybe they didn't grow up in a stable environment or had a stable situation growing up. I feel for them."
