Armed police are responding to an incident in West Auckland.

A police spokesperson said they were called to the incident in New Lynn at 9:40am on Saturday and are working to establish the circumstances leading to the incident.

One person, who was located at a petrol station on Great North Rd, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A St John spokesperson said they were notified of an incident in Te Atatu South at 09:43am and responded with one rapid response and one ambulance.

"We have assessed and treated one patient with serious injuries who has been transported to Auckland hospital."

Locals are reporting armed police have blocked off roads in the area. Witnesses have also spotted a police Eagle helicopter circling in the vicinity.

Police have cordoned off a long driveway on Hutchinson Ave and told Newshub they are working to establish whether a person was shot at the address and was then driven away from the scene in a car.

Police have also swarmed a vehicle parked in the New Lynn Mall car park.
