Search continues for missing separate fishermen in Manukau Harbour, Firth of Thames

The search and rescue operations have continued for two people who are missing after separate fishing trips got into trouble. 

Police said one person, a 10-year-old student, remains missing after a boat with five people onboard capsized at around 7pm on Sunday, near Clarks Beach in Manukau Harbour.

The child is believed to be a Sandspit Road School student. 

Two people made it to shore on Sunday evening while a third person was rescued by a police helicopter. All three were transported to Middlemore Hospital but have since been released. 

One other person was found dead in the water on Sunday evening. 

Tuesday's search will predominantly be aerial based with the assistance of the police eagle helicopter.

Firth of Thames 

Police also confirmed the search and rescue (SAR) operation is resuming on Tuesday for a kayaker missing from the Firth of Thames.

Police said Tuesday's search and rescue includes Coastguard's Air Patrol and Land SAR staff.

The kayaker set out from Kaiaua at around 3pm on Saturday with the intention of fishing at the mussel farms. 

He did not return as expected and was reported missing on Saturday night by his family.

At around 6.30am on Sunday morning, the man's kayak and fishing gear was found around three miles east of Orere Point.
