One person has been taken to hospital after a bouncy castle blew away at Tauranga's Fergusson Park during a New Year's Eve community celebration.

A police spokesperson said they received a report of the incident at 7:42pm on Saturday.

Footage posted to social media in the aftermath showed a large crowd gathered around the upturned castle.

In a statement, Tauranga City Council said one person was taken to hospital and four people were treated by medical staff on site.

"As a precaution, all inflatable devices were closed at all the community events as soon as we were notified of the incident," the statement said.

"Worksafe NZ has been notified and we are also undertaking our own investigation."
