A cop alleged to have fraudulently obtained the COVID-19 wage subsidy has been charged following an Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) investigation.

The officer claimed he had employees at his own business who needed the subsidy paid to them. However, when the people he claimed to be employees were spoken to, they denied working for him.

In a statement, the IPCA said the officer resigned and repaid the money during the investigation.

The IPCA added the officer has since been charged, a decision the watchdog said it agrees with.
