Police have raided a home and identified a person of interest in their investigation into a serious assault at a Mount Albert park.

On Thursday, police carried out a search warrant at an address in Auckland where the 14-year-old person of interest was located.

Acting detective senior sergeant Martin Friend said the man is assisting police with their enquiries.

"This male, who is a 14-year-old, will ultimately be dealt with through Youth Aid processes."

Police reported earlier a woman was seriously assaulted on the Waterview Shared Walkway near New North Road at around 6:28pm on Tuesday.

"We have notified the victim of the update in this matter and we are ensuring support remains in place for her," Det Snr Srg Friend said.

He also said police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the assault.

"Police would like to acknowledge the public who have been in contact with us since we released our appeal yesterday."
