Canterbury police are appealing for help to find two men after a stabbing in the city at the weekend.

The attack happened at about 5.50pm on Saturday outside of a bar at the New Brighton mall, after an altercation ensued between two men and another man who was then stabbed.

He remains in a stable condition in Christchurch Hospital after undergoing surgery.

Detective Mike McKellow said they were looking for two men, including one described as Caucasian with a tall build, who was seen wearing a basketball singlet.

The second man is described as being Māori or Polynesian and may have had facial tattoos.
