The owner of an Auckland auto shop says he's stressed and doesn't know what to do after Waka Kotahi suspended him from issuing Warrants of Fitness (WoFs).

Waka Kotahi suspended Q's Auto in the suburb of Henderson on Friday after it discovered "improper processes and numerous significant inspection errors".

The man who wanted to be identified as Mr Q told Newshub: "I have had to shut the shop. It's so hard, I don't know what to do."

Mr Q admitted to Newshub he knew he shouldn't have been so lenient when issuing WoFs but he didn't want to fail people.

"I was always nice to customers, I didn't fail them."

Mr Q said he has run the shop for more than 20 years.

All current 2674 WoFs issued by Q's Auto will be made invalid due to the issues uncovered by Waka Kotahi, the transport agency said.

"We're contacting as many owners as possible as quickly as possible, and we want to alert people now before they leave for holidays, or before other local WoF inspection sites close for the holiday period," Waka Kotahi Senior Manager Safer Vehicles Nicole Botherway said.

Anyone who has a WoF from Q's Auto should get another one as soon as possible, Botherway said.

The transport agency also stated it is not legally liable for any costs relating to WoF revocations.
