A 19-year-old has been arrested over a Hamilton robbery in which the dairy worker lost two fingers.
In December last year, CCTV showed four people entering the Irvine Street Dairy in the Hamilton suburb of Frankton. The staff member, a young father, escaped to a back room but was chased down.
"He tried to save himself by bringing in his hand in between his head or chest and the machete thing hit him on his hands and his two fingers were cut down and dispatched from the hand," Irvine St Dairy owner Puneet Singh said.
In an update on Friday, police said a 19-year-old man was arrested today over the violent robbery, and they are making enquiries to find other offenders.
"He is due to appear in the Palmerston North District Court tomorrow on a number of charges including aggravated robbery, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated assault, assault with intent to rob, and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle," said Detective Senior Sergeant Andrew Saunders.
"We know that these incidents are extremely concerning for our community. These crimes will not be tolerated, and Police are committed to ensuring that those responsible for crimes such as this will be held to account."
