A child has died after what's being described as an "incident" in Upper Hutt.
Emergency services were called to the scene at a property in Kaitoke just after 6pm on Monday.
A police spokeswoman confirmed one person died at the scene.
Police did not confirm the victim's age or the nature of the incident to Newshub, but Stuff is reporting the victim is a 5-year-old child and the accident involved a vehicle.
"An investigation has begun into the circumstances of what happened," the spokeswoman said.
"The death will be referred to the coroner."
Police said support was being offered to the victim's family.
