Clarke Gayford, Newshub journalists sanctioned by Russia

Russia has sanctioned 31 New Zealanders over what they call "anti-Russian propaganda".

Notably on the list is Clarke Gayford, who is described as a "television presenter, radio host, civil husband of the Prime Minister Ardern".

Also on the list is Newshub's head of news Sarah Bristow, European correspondent Lisette Reymer, managing editor Mark Longley, news editor Rebecca Watson and journalists Jamie Ensor and Molly Swift.

Russia's Foreign Ministry has described those on the list as "involved in promoting the anti-Russian agenda and supporting the regime in Kyiv".

They say the list has been released "in response to new sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities by the government of New Zealand, introduced as part of the Russophobic campaign of the 'collective West'".

The ministry said those sanctioned were now indefinitely blocked from entering Russia.

"Taking into account the fact that official Wellington does not intend to abandon the anti-Russian course and continues to produce new sanctions measures, work on updating the Russian 'stop list' will continue," the ministry added.

Russia also banned 32 prominent Kiwis from entering the country in July 2022.
