The family of slain dairy worker Janak Patel has shared their gratitude after over $100,000 was fundraised through Givealittle.

Patel was fatally stabbed on November 23 during a robbery in the Auckland suburb of Sandringham. His death sparked nationwide protests over the safety of small businesses and dairies.

The Dairy and Business Owner's Group chairman Sunny Kaushal said on Tuesday the $101,754 raised on Givealittle has been transferred to Patel's family.

"This was the last thing ever that we wanted to raise money for," Kaushal said.

"Mr Patel was a fine young fellow full of promise. No money can make up for his loss."

He added that Patel's family and widow appreciate what New Zealanders donated.

He also shared a letter from Patel's parents, who said they appreciated Kaushal and the Dairy and Business Owner's Group setting up the Givealittle page.

"With the sudden loss of Janak Patel in an unfortunate circumstance, we as the family have lost hugely and [the] gap will be hard to fill. We will no doubt have to move on and struggle without the breadwinner," Patel's parents wrote.

"In such a situation, it was calming to see the entire community coming together.

"We have no appropriate words to thank you. Please accept our highest appreciation."

The three men charged over the fatal robbery pleaded not guilty in the Auckland High Court in December. They were remanded in custody and a five-week trial will take place in May 2024.
