One person has been taken to hospital and another is in custody after a "road rage incident" in Auckland.

Police said they responded to a three-vehicle crash northbound on the Southern Motorway, near Greenlane, after it was reported to them at around 1:48pm on Monday.

"Following the crash, a road rage incident has occurred and one person has subsequently been taken to hospital with moderate injuries as a result of that incident," police said.

"A second person has been taken into custody and enquiries are ongoing to establish the wider circumstances of what has occurred."

Waka Kotahi NZTA said earlier the crash had blocked two lanes just after the Market Rd off-ramp, although this was cleared by 3pm.
