A pre-teenager was spotted driving back from a dairy in Dunedin, and stopped by police.

Officers spotted what appeared to be a child driving a car but it wasn’t until they pulled him over that they discovered he was only 12.

Police pulled over the vehicle on Brockville Rd on Monday, about 6pm, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said.

The 12-year-old driver was told not to drive, and taken to his home, in nearby Cockerell St.

Police said the boy had been returning from a dairy, after driving from his home a few hundred metres away.

“The driver was initially pulled over due to his young appearance.” Sergeant Bond said.

He has now been referred to Youth Aid.
