Police are launching an investigation after discovering the body of 55-year-old Christchurch man Chad Puru.
In a statement on Wednesday, a police spokesperson said Puru had been formally identified after being found dead in Balcairn, north Canterbury on Tuesday.
"Mr Puru's death is being treated as unexplained and Police would like to hear from anyone who can assist our enquiries," the spokesperson said.
Police are also looking for anyone who has seen a silver Honda fit with the registration number MSF928 around Christchurch, between 10am on December 31 and 10am on January 3.
"Mr Puru was 168cm tall, of solid build with a mullet-style haircut and was extensively tattooed, including his face," the spokesperson said.
