A police investigation has been sparked after a person was found dead at a central Auckland backpackers.
Police confirmed a person was found deceased at a St Georges Bay Rd property in the suburb of Parnell on Tuesday night.
"The death is being treated as unexplained at this stage and there will be a police presence in the area this morning," a police spokesperson said.
Hato Hone St John said it received a call to the address at 11:02pm on Tuesday. One manager responded to the scene.
Lantana Lodge Backpackers confirmed to Newshub an elderly man staying at the residence was found deceased. They believe the death was a "normal death".
A staff member said the police are still currently at the backpackers.
The police spokesperson said officers are investigating the circumstances of the "sudden death" and no further information is available.
