Police are asking the public for more information after a woman was sexually assaulted in Auckland's Tōtara Park on Tuesday and the alleged perpetrator remains on the run.
In a statement on Wednesday, Detective Inspector Karen Bright said the attack took place at around 10:25am on Tuesday after the woman had stopped at a lookout point on the Puhinui Stream Forest Trail.
Det Insp Bright said the woman was cut in the neck during the attack.
"Following this cowardly attack, the offender fled on foot and despite a swift Police response, he remains outstanding," Det Insp Bright said.
In a statement, police have described the offender as "being in his 20s or early 30s of chubby build with facial tattoos."
Police also said the offender was wearing a blue T-shirt and black shorts during the attack.
"Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been in that area between 8am and 11:30am on 17 January, as they may have seen something of relevance to the investigation."
Police also added in the statement they are keen to talk to anyone who was taking photos or filming in the area between 8am and 11:30am on Tuesday as well.
"We ask the community [to] remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity immediately," police said.
