Stolen property worth more than $100,000 has been recovered by police in Christchurch.

Last weekend, an address in Richmond was burgled of sentimental jewellery, irreplaceable photographs, laptops, electronics, passports, other personal documents, and a nursery full of items for a new-born baby.

In a statement today, Detective Senior Sergeant Tania Jellyman said police recovered a "significant amount" of the property after two search warrants in Shirley and Northcote yesterday.

Jellyman acknowledged members of the public who provided tip-offs which helped lead to the property.

"Their information played a significant role in the swift arrests which enabled the recovery of the property."

It was a timely reminder for residents to ensure their homes were secure, Jellyman said.

"In addition to the usual precautions of locking all doors and windows, keeping valuables out of sight and recording serial numbers, as these victims did, it's good to note that trusted neighbours can help too.

"Keep an eye out for each other and let them know when you are away. Helping each other by simply clearing each other's mailboxes can be a way to deter burglars."

A 24-year-old woman and 53-year-old man have been jointly charged with burglary.

They will be appearing before Christchurch District Court today.
