A teenager has died after an incident at an Auckland skatepark.
Emergency services were called to Victoria Park in central Auckland at around 9:17pm on Sunday.
A police spokesperson said it appears a 17-year-old skateboarder had been injured. They were taken to hospital but sadly died.
It is unclear how the skateboarder was injured.
Police have referred the death to the Coroner.
In 2018, Victoria Park was at the centre of another tragic death which prompted Auckland Council to implement safety changes to the skatepark.
A 25-year-old died in hospital after he was seriously injured falling from the emergency exit for the motorway tunnel which runs underneath the park.
The death sparked the council to install razor wire around the edge of the structure, as well as signs instructing skaters to keep off the roof.
The council also said at the time it will review the design of the park's ramp and consult with a designer to identify any risks of similar accidents occurring in the future.
