Three more men arrested after police chase, reported armed carjacking near Palmerston North

Police have arrested three more people after an alleged violent carjacking near Palmerston North.

The situation unfolded just before 7:30am on Friday, after police received reports of a vehicle travelling fast on State Highway 57 at Aokautere.

After a pursuit, the occupants reportedly stopped traffic on the highway and stole two cars from innocent motorists.

One vehicle crashed shortly afterwards. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle and a 19-year-old man arrested at the scene.

On Friday afternoon Manawatū Area Commander Inspector Phillip Ward said in a statement another three men have been arrested "following the alleged aggravated robbery of two vehicles on State Highway 3, and the crash on Ruahine St, Palmerston North".

All four men arrested are between 19 to 20 years old.

"Officers, assisted by the Armed Offenders Squad, located the three remaining suspects around midday in Feilding and arrested them without incident," Inspt Ward said.

Inspt Ward said police are not looking for anyone else in relation but would still like to hear from anyone who filmed or took photos of it.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Police on 105 or fill out a report online using 'Update Report' and reference event number 230127/4600.

"Thankfully, the innocent motorists caught up in the events on State Highway 3 were largely unharmed and we have been providing them with support," Ward said.

All four suspects are due to appear in the Palmerston North District Court on Saturday.
