People and infrastructure aren't the only things that have been affected by Cyclone Gabrielle - many animals have also been impacted.
On Facebook, the New Zealand Equestrian Scene posted a photo of a horse stranded on a roof, surrounded by murky waters in Hawke's Bay.
The page confirmed the horse on the roof later died as "nothing could be done".
"It's my profound sadness to inform that the horse on the roof is deceased," the page posted.
Many people commented on the post about how devasting it was the horse had died.
"This is getting more heartbreaking by the minute. My heart goes out to those poor owners, truly devastating," one person commented.
Another commented: "Oh gawd (sic). Another one. So so sorry. Such a brave and courageous horse to get on the roof. It would have been so slippery."
"So sad to read this. I can't imagine the pain that every person affected by this weather event is going through," a third said.
The deceased horse, which was located on Dartmoor Road in Hawke's Bay, might not be the only one that has died.
One person has tweeted a collage of horses that have gone missing, with the caption: "Likely #CycloneGabrielle has claimed dozens of horses."
The New Zealand Equestrian Scene has also shared videos of some horses being reunited with their owners.
On Wednesday, the page shared a heartwarming post of a horse being reunited with its owner.
"This heartwarming moment of when Jenna Marsh was reunited with her horse Polly today might make you cry but for the good reasons. We need some more happy stories to come out of this flooding," the page posted.
