A tornado has ripped through Greymouth on the West Coast overnight, with roofs lifted, windows blown out and damage to at least four properties.
Emergency services were called to two houses in Cobden in Greymouth, after a tornado at about 1am Monday morning.
Fire and Emergency spokesperson Alex Norris said a roof had been lifted off at a property and windows had blown in at four houses.
Crews from Cobden attended two properties on Fox St on Monday morning.
Norris confirmed there were no injuries because of the tornado.
Police said they received a call from a resident in Fox St in Cobden to report windows had been blown in by what appeared to be a tornado.
"While they were on the phone with police, the person reported their neighbour's roof had come off," a police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added a patrol also found a roof at a school had been partially lifted and also confirmed there were no injuries.
The wild weather also caused slips and road closures on the West Coast.
State Highway 6 in Westland is closed from Ross to Haast because of slips and fallen trees and will remain shut until at least midday on Monday.
