Three people have died on Monday morning following two separate crashes on North Island's State Highway 4.
One person died following the first of the two crashes at 11:30am near Taumarunui.
The second fatal crash occurred at Raetahi at midday, leaving two dead and two injured. That section of the road was also closed with diversions put in place.
Shortly after midday, Waka Kotahi advised that SH4 had been closed. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and diversions are in place.
Detours are available - northbound motorists should use SH47 onto SH41 and back onto SH4 while those going south should do the reverse.
