Three people have been injured in a police chase in Auckland.

Inspector Jason Homan said in a statement police were responding to an incident in Māngere on Thursday that reportedly involved a firearm.

The police found a vehicle of interest in relation to the incident and at around midday signalled the vehicle to stop.

"In the process, the vehicle has attempted to pass traffic and has collided with two vehicles on an overpass on State Highway 20, south of the Coronation Road off-ramp," Homan said.

The crash caused two members of the public and the driver of the stolen vehicle to sustain moderate injuries.

All three people were transported to hospital.

"The Serious Crash Unit is attending the incident and an investigation is underway into the original incident and the crash," Homan said.

Police will also be notifying the Independent Police Conduct Authority as part of its standard procedure.
